Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How to become a member of IPVD?
IPVD accepts as associates all companies composed according to Portuguese laws, affiliated companies, branch offices, or other representations of foreign companies registered in Portugal, that are permanently dedicated to the direct selling of products, goods and services, or of which main activity consists in the commercialization of products, goods or services destined to direct selling, and in compliance with IPVD’s standards.

I am an independent partner from a direct selling company, can I open an online store and sell the products I acquire?
To be able to open an online store you should contact your direct selling company or consult the agreement formalized with it in order to verify if there are any constraints arising from this contract.

I am an independent partner from a direct selling company, and I wish to know if there is really no need to pay any kind of taxes over my sales? Also, how should I proceed to issue an invoice to my clients, since I don’t have a way to do it, because the direct selling company only issues invoices to me? Is it legal to sell without issuing invoices?
IPVD is not directed to assist in this kind of support. This role belongs to the direct selling companies, consultants, certified accountants, auditors, etc… For this reason, we suggest that you look for advice directly with your Direct Selling company or your tax office, or a Certified Accountant, for an adequate clarification on various subjects, namely IRS fiscal regime, (simplified or general) and VAT regime, communication of sales and transport documents to the Tributary Authority, and other legal and fiscal obligations.

What is the difference between multilevel marketing and pyramid scheme?
The main difference is that in multilevel marketing the agents’/sellers’/suppliers’ benefits or financial compensations come solely from the sale of the company’s products whilst in a pyramid scheme (which is illegal) the benefits or financial compensations come, essentially, from recruiting new agents/sellers/suppliers.

I have a business where I practice my activity as an Accountant. I also practice an activity as direct selling advisor (sales by catalogue) and I would like to know if I can display the products for demonstration in my shop, and if I should place a poster informing that the products displayed are commercialized through direct selling?
We suggest you look for advice directly with the Direct Selling company of which you are an advisor, for an adequate clarification of all your inquiries.

To be a seller in part-time do I have to set up a company? How do I receive the sales profits? Do I have to sign a contract with the company? If so, can you please, provide me with a contract template that you consider adequate for recruiting direct selling collaborators?
